It is not blame, and it is not \u201ceveryone owns everything\u201d (which means no one does).<\/p>\n<h2>What it looks like in practice<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>A name on the service: pager, merge rights, \u201cthis SLO is ours.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>A written owner for a change: who can roll it back at 2 a.m.<\/li>\n<li>Reviews that say \u201cI would run this in prod\u201d or \u201cI would not,\u201d not only \u201cLGTM.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>After a failure<\/h2>\n<p>Blameless means you hunt causes in the system (missing test, unclear runbook, a deploy with no canary). It does not mean nobody changes anything. The accountable team still ships the fix and the missing guardrail. If the same incident repeats, that is a management problem, not a \u201clearning\u201d slogan.<\/p>\n<h2>Example<\/h2>\n<p><strong>What breaks it:<\/strong> the outage channel says \u201ceveryone owns checkout,\u201d and the pager rotation has no one who has shipped that service.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Better:<\/strong> one name owns checkout.
